Mental Health Clinic · Fort Lauderdale, FL

When mental health goes untreated, everything else follows.

Relationships strain. Work suffers. And for many people, substances become a way to cope with pain that no one has yet helped them address at the root. At Compassion Behavioral Health, we believe the most effective treatment starts with mental health first. Everything else is built on that foundation.

Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, our mental health clinic and addiction treatment center offers a full continuum of care, spanning residential stabilization through PHP, IOP, and outpatient programming. We serve individuals and families across Broward County and South Florida who are ready for something more than a 30-day program and a goodbye.

Our Story

A clinic built to treat the mental health driving addiction.

Compassion Behavioral Health was founded in 2015 on a premise that most treatment centers were getting backward: they treated addiction and ignored the mental health driving it. Our Fort Lauderdale clinic was built specifically to reverse that equation. We are a primary mental health treatment center, and dual diagnosis care is our clinical identity.

What makes our clinic different is not just our programming. It is the scale at which we deliver individualized care. Our therapists carry caseloads of 8 to 10 clients. Clinical Directors know every patient by name and by story. You are not a number here. Your recovery plan is built around your specific history, your diagnosis, and your life. It evolves as you do.

We are accredited by The Joint Commission (JCAHO), licensed by AHCA and DCF, affiliated with NAMI, and certified through PsychArmor for military-competent care. With 633+ Google reviews across both South Florida locations and documented outcome improvements of 159% for depression and 167% for anxiety, our results speak for themselves.

Mental Health Services · Fort Lauderdale

Structured clinical care. Built around the individual.

Our Fort Lauderdale facility provides structured, clinically supervised mental health services designed to stabilize individuals in acute distress and equip them with the tools to sustain recovery over the long term. We do not offer a one-size-fits-all approach. Every service is embedded within a personalized treatment plan developed by your clinical team from day one.

Mental Health Counselor Services

A unified care team not one session a week as a checkbox.

Our licensed clinical team includes mental health counselors, licensed clinical social workers, psychiatrists, and addiction specialists who collaborate as a unified care team. Individual therapy sessions are scheduled multiple times per week, never once a week as a checkbox. Counselors are actively involved in every aspect of your care, from admissions through discharge planning.

Our counselors are trained across multiple evidence-based modalities, meaning they are equipped to meet you where you are. Whether your needs call for trauma-focused therapy, dialectical behavioral techniques, or motivational approaches to change, you will have a consistent therapeutic relationship throughout your time at our Fort Lauderdale center.

Our Clinical Identity

Dual Diagnosis Treatment in Fort Lauderdale

The relationship between mental health and addiction is not incidental it is clinical. Substance use disorders rarely exist in isolation. Depression self-medicated with alcohol, anxiety numbed with opioids, trauma escaped through substance use. Treating one without the other is one of the most common reasons treatment fails.

Co-Occurring Disorders

Mental health and substance use disorders identified through comprehensive clinical assessment at intake and addressed together from day one not sequentially, not separately.

Integrated Treatment

Mental health and addiction treated by the same clinical team, using a unified plan, within the same program. No hand-off between departments. No gap between counselors.

Dual Diagnosis Program

Designed for complex presentations requiring expertise across both behavioral health domains. This is not a specialty add-on at CBH it is who we are.

Evidence-Based Treatment Modalities

A clinical toolkit not a single approach

Our Fort Lauderdale clinical team is trained across a wide range of therapeutic modalities. Each treatment plan draws on the specific approaches most appropriate for the client's diagnosis, history and goals.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Identifies and restructures distorted thought patterns that drive emotional distress. A core element of individual and group treatment across all conditions.

DBT

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization

Highly effective, evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD. Helps the brain reprocess distressing memories without reliving them in detail.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Non-invasive neuromodulation therapy for mood regulation. Available to eligible CBH clients through our NeuroHealth Fort Lauderdale partnership.

NFB

Neurofeedback Therapy

Trains the brain to regulate its own activity through real-time brainwave feedback. Effective for ADHD, PTSD, anxiety and mood disorders.

Personalized Care

"Stories Change Here" is not aspirational. It is operational.

Personalized care is not a marketing phrase at Compassion Behavioral Health. It is an operational reality. Our therapists maintain caseloads of 8 to 10 clients. Your Clinical Director knows your name and your story, not just your chart. Your treatment plan is built from a comprehensive clinical assessment at intake and updated as you progress through each level of care.

We use GeneSight genetic testing to inform psychiatric medication decisions, ensuring that the medications prescribed for each client are matched to their individual biology. We coordinate with outside specialists, including NeuroHealth for TMS and SPRAVATO® therapy, to ensure every client has access to every appropriate resource.

When you treat the mental health driving addiction, when you build a full continuum of individualized care, and when every person on your team leads with compassion stories do change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mental Health & Addiction Treatment FAQs · Fort Lauderdale

What types of mental health and addiction treatment programs are available in Fort Lauderdale?
Compassion Behavioral Health offers a full continuum of care in Fort Lauderdale, including residential/inpatient mental health treatment, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), standard outpatient treatment, and virtual therapy. We treat both primary mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders within an integrated dual diagnosis framework.
What is dual diagnosis treatment and why is it important?
Dual diagnosis treatment addresses both a mental health condition and a substance use disorder simultaneously, within the same clinical program. It is important because the majority of people struggling with addiction also have an underlying mental health condition such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or bipolar disorder that is driving the substance use. Treating addiction without addressing the mental health component is one of the primary reasons treatment fails. At CBH, dual diagnosis is not a specialty. It is the foundation of everything we do.
What addictions are treated at your Fort Lauderdale center?
We treat alcohol use disorder, opioid use disorder, heroin addiction, amphetamine and methamphetamine addiction, benzodiazepine dependence, sedative dependence, and cocaine addiction, among others. In virtually all cases, we are treating these conditions within a dual diagnosis framework, addressing the mental health conditions that co-occur with substance use.
Do you offer residential addiction treatment in Fort Lauderdale?
Yes. Our residential program provides 24-hour clinical support for individuals who need stabilization before stepping down to PHP or IOP. Residential care creates the foundation for everything that follows in the continuum. The length of residential treatment is always individualized, determined by clinical progress and never by a fixed number of days.
What is the difference between PHP, IOP, and outpatient treatment?
PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program) is the most intensive day program, typically involving five or more days per week with six or more hours of structured clinical programming daily. IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) involves fewer hours per week, typically three to five days, with more flexibility to manage outside responsibilities. Standard outpatient treatment involves regular individual and group therapy on a less intensive schedule. Each level builds on the previous one and is designed to support a gradual, supported reintegration into daily life.
Does insurance cover mental health and addiction treatment?
Most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and TRICARE East, cover behavioral health treatment. Our admissions team will verify your benefits before treatment begins and walk you through exactly what is covered. We advocate aggressively on behalf of our clients when insurance companies attempt to limit authorized care.
What therapies are used for addiction and mental health recovery?
Our clinical team uses a range of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Neurofeedback, individual therapy, and group therapy. Advanced options, including TMS and SPRAVATO® therapy, are available through our partnership with NeuroHealth for eligible clients.
Can I receive outpatient addiction treatment while living at home?
Yes. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient program are both designed for clients who are ready to live independently or with family while continuing clinical treatment. IOP clients typically attend sessions three to five days per week and have the flexibility to maintain work or family commitments. Our case management team helps coordinate this balance.
How quickly can I start treatment in Fort Lauderdale?
Our admissions team works to begin the intake process as quickly as possible. In many cases, we can complete insurance verification and clinical pre-screening within 24 hours. If you or a loved one is in crisis, please call us directly at (844) 999-0133, and we will work to get you into care as quickly as clinically appropriate.
You do not have to have everything figured out before you call.

You just have to be ready to take the next step.

We will handle the rest.
