I came here to get my life back on track from years and years of repressed emotions, trauma and alcoholism. This place has been an amazing experience for me because of the kind and understanding staff! But lets not forget the welcoming and loving community built by the other clients! I was terrified to come here being so far from from home but I've enjoyed every step of this journey so far. I highly recommend this place for all who need help no matter what it be! Everyone is welcomed!

I spent three weeks at Compassion Behavioral Health residential in Hollywood, FL.  I came in for ruminating thoughts that I was using substances to mediate unsuccessfully.  Throughout the DBT focus in the curriculum and my work with a therapist, I learned what was going on internally and tools to cope with my thinking patterns.  Ultimately, I was introduced to the work of Adult Children of Alcoholics which has been such a blessing and help for my life moving forward.  Though the nutrition needs improvement in terms of more fresh fruit and salad options, I would not trade my time here.  I am looking forward to PHP and chose to stay with CBH for that next chapter.  Thank you to the team!

Depression Treatment in Fort Lauderdale: Personalized Care That Gets to the Root, Not Just the Surface

Some mornings in South Florida feel impossibly heavy. The brightness outside does not match what is happening inside, and routine tasks become exhausting. This is not a slump you can will away. It is a primary mental health condition that affects sleep, motivation, thinking, and relationships.

Lasting relief rarely comes from medication alone. Real progress happens when biological care, evidence-based therapy, daily structure, and family support work together. Choosing depression treatment Fort Lauderdale means getting a plan that targets root causes and helps you function again with steadier mood and energy.

Patient receiving compassionate depression care in Fort Lauderdale

Why Depression Is a Primary Mental Health Condition That Requires More Than Medication Alone

Depression is a complex brain and body condition. It changes how you process information, regulate sleep, and respond to stress. Symptoms often persist or return if you only address one piece of the picture.

Combining therapy with medication management improves outcomes for many patients. Skills from structured therapies help you interrupt bleak thought patterns and re-engage with life. Lifestyle planning, family involvement, and relapse-prevention strategies reinforce gains between sessions. To see how this comes together in practice, explore our depression care approach in South Florida.

Depression and Co-Occurring Substance Use: How CBH Fort Lauderdale Treats Both Together

Many patients use alcohol, opioids, or stimulants to blunt low mood or anxiety. That relief is short-lived and can worsen depression over time. Treating both conditions together prevents a back-and-forth cycle that keeps you stuck.

At CBH Fort Lauderdale, you work with the same core team across levels of care. Therapists coordinate with medical providers so mood stabilization and substance use goals stay aligned. Our compassionate lapse policy emphasizes safety planning and learning, not shame. With depression treatment Fort Lauderdale patients address triggers, cravings, and mood in one integrated plan that respects individual pace.

If you or a loved one needs coordinated support for both conditions, you can learn about dual-diagnosis support offered through our South Florida programs.

Evidence-Based Depression Therapies Used at CBH Fort Lauderdale: CBT, MI, and Medication Management

CBT helps you map the link between thoughts, feelings, and actions. You will practice skills that challenge hopeless beliefs and build doable routines. Motivational Interviewing (MI) strengthens commitment to change by aligning care with your values.

Psychiatric providers manage medications with a careful, measurement-based approach. For high-acuity mental health cases, we use GeneSight testing to inform medication choices. Small therapist caseloads allow individualized plans and frequent feedback. You can also access EMDR, neurofeedback, SMART Recovery groups, and family therapy as clinically indicated.

  • CBT for mood and behavior change
  • MI to enhance readiness and engagement
  • Psychiatric care with GeneSight support
  • EMDR and neurofeedback as needed

To understand how CBT fits into your recovery plan, please see CBT in our program with examples of skills you can use right away.

PHP and IOP for Depression Treatment in Fort Lauderdale: When You Need More Than Weekly Therapy

Some patients need a structured day program to stabilize faster. Our Fort Lauderdale site provides Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and step-down care with the same team guiding progress. The PHP leveling system is empowerment-based, not punitive, and Level 3 expands family sessions, therapeutic passes, and full programming.

Family is part of the treatment team through Compassion Connections, a bi-weekly Zoom series with a six-week curriculum. Veterans receive tailored support from our Director of Veteran Services, a 21-year military veteran who helps navigate VA resources; we are PsychArmor trained and accept TRICARE East. Programs are accredited by JCAHO, AHCA, DCF, and recognized by NAMI. For depression treatment Fort Lauderdale patients benefit from consistent structure, evidence-based groups, and coordinated medication care.

  • Daytime structure with psychiatric oversight
  • Minimal caseloads for individualized attention
  • Family therapy and education integrated
  • Step-down planning with the same team

If daily structure sounds right for you, please see our PHP overview to understand schedule, supports, and next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions About integrated depression and dual-diagnosis care

Here are clear answers to common questions patients and families ask:

  1. What makes depression a primary mental health condition?

Depression involves biological, psychological, and social drivers that alter functioning. Treating it directly prevents symptoms from being masked or misattributed.

  2. How do you treat substance use alongside depression?

We address both together with coordinated therapy and medication care. This reduces relapse risk and improves mood stability.

  3. Which therapies are used in your program?

Core modalities include CBT, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, neurofeedback, and family therapy. Group formats like SMART Recovery complement individual work.

  4. How is medication management handled?

A psychiatric provider oversees medications with routine outcomes tracking. GeneSight testing may inform choices for complex cases.

  5. When is PHP or IOP recommended?

PHP or IOP is appropriate when weekly therapy is not enough to stabilize. These levels provide daily structure without a full hospital stay.

  6. Do you support veterans, families, and LGBTQIA+ patients?

Yes, we offer military-competent care with a dedicated veteran services director and a family education series. We are LGBTQIA+ affirming with dedicated group offerings.
