Understanding

Recognizing the Signs of Attachment Disorder

Individuals with attachment disorder may frequently isolate themselves from others, avoiding social interactions and forming deep connections.

They struggle to express love or intimacy, finding it challenging to connect emotionally with others.

They may exhibit frequent outbursts of anger and struggle with controlling their emotions, often attempting to assert dominance or control in relationships.

Those with attachment disorder may engage in impulsive actions without considering the consequences, such as reckless spending or substance

They often experience a pervasive sense of emptiness or loneliness, even in the presence of others, leading to a constant search for fulfillment that is difficult to satisfy.

Patient Stories

TRUSTED BY THE COMMUNITY

Beautiful place, the staff are great and actually care. Its small so I always felt seen and heard. Plenty of snacks and food options with access to them up to 11pm. Everyone always knew my name and will tell my addict friends about this place.
This is my second time in treatment, 8 years ago and again now after having 5.5 years in recovery. With three weeks in, CBH has been a complete 180 in terms of the therapeutic approach to my self-worth and core identity. To put it simply, CBH embodies care and dignity in every way — from the culture they cultivate and lift up among clients, to the perception-changing yet safe and trusting relationship with my individual therapist, to the responsiveness and genuine reciprocity with staff, I don’t know what magic model CBH has uncovered but compassion is a through line from the top level programming to the small, every day interactions. Special shout out to:
– Sarah P for meeting me exactly where I was when I came in, then lovingly and expertly guiding me to literally uncovering and sitting with my inner child in a way I have never experienced before
– Kelly for surfacing and removing any fears I had prior about my spiritual search for truth and healing, it’s hard to put into words the healing power of her energy and touch but anyone blessed enough to experience and be open to it will walk away changed forever
– Carla, Jake, Gary, and Raquel for facilitating group in such a way that did not merely present healthy CBT / DBT and other mindfulness practices but which let us individually and as a group flow organically into places of genuine vulnerability to heal
– Triple A tech team (Alicia, Alexa, Ashley) for managing so many constant requests and questions from me and the clients with such grace, reassurance, and openness (especially for being my morning alarm clock!)
– the nighttime tech squad (Cindy, Mikey, Shakila, & Sebastian) for being so genuinely interested in connecting with each individual resident, and constantly thinking about ways to make the evenings just fun together (mafia was hilarious, and Cindy’s ice cream social and fresh baked cookies were chef’s kiss)
– Barbara, Ryan, & Clint for making me feel so at peace from my first phone call when I knew I needed help but didn’t know what place was “right” to making me feel heard and seen every time I shared something — a huge change from my first time in treatment where it felt like I just needed to “shut up and listen”
– Lauren for holding the ship steady with clearly a hundred things coming at her at any given moment, all while still keeping the mission of compassion alive and well in the day-to-day operations
– Tyler for his riddles helping me to rebuild my brain cells and for taking time to talk with me 1:1 and feel part of the great work CBH is doing while I was still in treatment (I didn’t know alumni coordinators could spend time doing that lol)
– and last but certainly not least, Elena for putting the WORK into case work — managing every single patient case, from paperwork to calls to constant client pop ins, with a hopeful, loving touch, always finding options and solutions to work and life stuff that eased my fear and anxiety every time I walked out of her office

From everything I’ve experienced with my time in recovery, Compassion is that rare diamond in the rough of mental health and substance abuse treatment — a place that lives up to its name and vision of realizing a world that can change and heal by fostering that change and healing within each person who is open and willing to uncovering that love and understanding within themself first.
Compassions gets a 5+++ star from me. The staff is wonderful. They all, truly, show compassion and dignity to all of their clients. The small campus is gorgeous with a serene environment. The staff goes above and beyond to have fun evenings with the outdoor big movie screen, special desserts, and music nights. Being near the ocean brings in a nice cool breeze. The groups were very enlightening for me on my journey to recovery. The therapy staff gets another 5 +++ star from me. You cannot go wrong coming here. I appreciated that the client to staff ratio was balanced. During my stay, the average number of clients residing here was 15. This allowed me to get the best care that I needed, rather than the larger establishments with over 50 clients at a time.
You will leave Compassions with a strong feeling of renewed strength and sobriety.
The Staff along with the Medical Providers have been amazing. Throughout my stay here they were consistent. I want to say Thank You for helping me achieve my goals.
CBH gave me a second shot a life. I’ve grown so much in my stay. I recommend to anyone going through mental health or addiction issues!!!! Ms cindy, Ms Elena, ms Ashley, and ms Lauren are the best!

Attachment Disorder Treatment in South Florida

Attachment Disorder is a condition where a child cannot establish a healthy attachment with their parent or caretaker. Since children with attachment disorder have been disrupted in their younger years, they often experience impaired relationships in the future. These children might face developmental delays and struggle to relate to others.

Even though attachment disorder is considered a childhood disorder, it can have significant effects in adulthood, especially if the condition has been left untreated or treatment was not successful. Also, adults with children who have attachment disorder may face a variety of lifestyle stressors.

Symptoms of Attachment Disorder

It is important to recognize that attachment disorder is a complex and multifaceted condition that can have long-lasting effects on an individual’s life. By understanding the various signs and symptoms associated with attachment disorder, we can better support and provide appropriate interventions for those affected.

Some of the common symptoms of attachment disorder include,

  • Difficulty forming emotional connections with others
  • Unexplained withdrawal, fear, or sadness
  • Failure to seek comfort or respond when comfort is given
  • Resistance to physical touch
  • Anger or difficulty managing anger
  • Impulsive or reckless behavior

Recognizing the common symptoms of attachment disorder is the first step toward getting help. If you notice any of these symptoms in you or your loved one, it’s important to seek professional advice.

Treatments for Attachment Disorder at CBH

The good news is attachment disorder in adults is highly treatable.  At Compassion Behavioral Health, we offer a variety of treatments for patients with attachment disorder including:

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)

Group therapy

Individual therapy

Motivational interviewing

Neurofeedback

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

-Medication

Drug or alcohol abuse is common with attachment disorders. Therefore, we offer treatments that target both conditions. Between our Substance Use Treatment Program and a Mental Health Treatment Program, we can effectively treat both disorders simultaneously.

As one of the leading attachment disorder treatment centers in South Florida, Compassion Behavioral Health is focused on offering patients with attachment disorders thorough and efficient treatment and therapy options. By addressing the psychological and emotional aspects of attachment disorders, our approach is grounded in evidence-based practices ensuring a comprehensive recovery process. ⁤⁤We strive to restore healthy relationships and create a healing environment through family involvement, group discussions, and individualized therapy sessions.

Residential Treatment for Attachment Disorder

⁤Our residential level of care provides a secure and supportive environment for people to delve into the core of their attachment problems. Patients can receive more extensive treatment in this immersive setting, where our team of behavioral health experts is always available to offer support and advice. ⁤⁤The residential setting offers a foundation for long-lasting transformation and personal growth, making it especially advantageous for individuals who need a controlled environment to cope with the complexity of their condition. ⁤⁤Compassion Behavioral Health is leading the way in treating Attachment  Disorder by combining innovative techniques like neurofeedback and EMDR with traditional therapies to provide every client the best chance for full recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for Attachment Disorder

In addition, we provide a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for individuals in need of supervised assistance but not complete residential care. Through our PHP, clients can return to the housing we offer while taking part in daytime comprehensive therapy sessions. This mix provides the necessary structure and intensity of treatment with more flexibility, making it a step down from residential care or a more supportive option to outpatient treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Attachment Disorder

Furthermore, CBH’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a flexible treatment alternative that enables patients to continue attending their regular jobs, classes, or families while undergoing treatment. The IOP is designed for those who have made significant improvements in their symptoms of attachment disorder or for people whose disorders are less severe but still need targeted treatment. In order to ensure long-term success, this program consists of regular therapy sessions that include CBT, DBT, and group therapy. It also provides a network of support and ongoing care.

Compassion Behavioral Health’s Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs both exemplify our dedication to offering flexible and easily accessible treatment for people suffering from Attachment Disorder. We ensure all clients can choose a treatment path that best meets their recovery needs by offering various levels of care, that promote healing and make it easier for them to get back to life to its fullest.
