Residential Treatment

Compassion Behavioral Health provides treatment to those who require 24-hour care while receiving support for a primary mental health disorder and/or dual diagnosis. This is the highest level of care offered at our facility, and it allows our clients to access more tools, resources and therapies than if they were in individual, family or group therapy alone. While it’s most common for clients to stay in residential rehab for one month, some stay longer – up to six months.

When you contact Compassion Behavioral Health, our compassionate admissions department can answer your initial questions and help determine the best level of treatment for yourself or a loved one. Below we share more information about our residential treatment program and the types of people it’s best for.

What is Residential Treatment? How Does it Compare to Your Other Programs?

Residential treatment is the most intensive treatment option because it requires clients to live at our facility and receive around-the-clock medical supervision. We highly recommend this level of care for those suffering from acute mental health issues or at a higher risk for suicidal thoughts and self-harming behaviors.

The good news is that once we get your mental health symptoms properly diagnosed and under control, you can move to a lower level of care. Addictions are easier to treat when you have a clear mind and rational thinking. All therapies we offer are evidence-based and led by licensed mental health professionals.

Here are some of the ways that our residential treatment program compares to our other programs – partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP) and standard outpatient (OP).

  • Reside at our facility. Perhaps the main difference between residential treatment and our other programs is that you live at our facility under medical care until you are mentally stabilized and cleared. This allows our licensed nurses and staff to offer 24-hour support.
  • Better equipped to treat severe problems. Outpatient care is an excellent way to strengthen your recovery, but most programs expect you to be sober. If your mental health symptoms are not under control, you’ll probably need to complete inpatient residential treatment first.
  • Wider range of services. We’re able to offer the most extensive services to those who live at our facility. Along with more hours of therapy and supervision, you are residing in a safe and controlled environment.

What are the Benefits of Your Residential Program?

If you have an acute untreated mental health problem, our residential program is probably the best fit. You can get the individualized attention you need to diagnose and treat your mental illness while starting your addiction recovery. Once your symptoms are managed and you are no longer actively experiencing mental health episodes, you can step down to a lower level of care to support your journey.

That said, there is no rush to complete our residential program. It’s important to be patient and take things one day at a time. Recovering from a mental health or dual diagnosis is more complicated than recovering from a substance use disorder on its own.

Here are some benefits to expect by taking part in our residential program:

  • Be surrounded by a supportive community
  • Receive around-the-clock support from licensed nurses and staff
  • Reside in a distraction-free, safe environment
  • Remove yourself from triggers and toxic people/situations
  • Work on your mental illness and addiction simultaneously
  • Have a wide range of tools and therapies at your disposal
  • Develop friendships with sober supportive individuals
  • Practice a new, healthy schedule

Who is Your Residential Treatment Program Best For?

When you contact the admissions department at Compassion Behavioral Health, we can determine if our residential program is right for you. Generally speaking, we recommend this higher level of care for individuals who:

  • Have not yet been diagnosed or have been mis-diagnosed
  • Have not been properly medicated
  • Have current acute mental health episodes
  • Need more intensive, around-the-clock care
  • Lack of support at home or in the community
  • Are working on developing essential coping skills
  • Have not received treatment yet, or have tried an OP or IOP with no success
  • Have safety issues such as self-harm urges or suicidal thoughts

Receive Comprehensive Care from Our Residential Program

One of the biggest benefits of seeking an inpatient program is that you can receive well-rounded, integrated care. It’s incredibly freeing to remove yourself from your previous environment and get away from toxic people and triggering places. Having this distance is enough for some people to gain a new perspective on their recovery.

You’ll also appreciate having all of the tools and resources you need to recover in a single setting. You can receive frequent sessions of therapy and are able to see a therapist daily – sometimes multiple times a day. Plus, our therapists are able to see you in a number of settings. This helps you develop closer, deeper relationships.

Furthermore, residential rehab provides structure and routine, something that is incredibly important when suffering from mental health disorders. You can’t go from one extreme to the next, so our program gently eases you into a healthy schedule that includes waking up and going to bed at the same time, medication times, participating in household chores, scheduling therapy sessions and setting aside time for relaxation.
