Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Hollywood, FL

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a safe, FDA-approved, and clinically-proven treatment that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. It’s often used when other mental health therapies such as psychotherapy and medications haven’t been effective. TMS is intended to enhance the brain’s ability to change itself and restore normal function.

How TMS Works

During your first session, your technician will ask you to remove jewelry, credit cards, and any other magnetic-sensitive objects you may be wearing. Then, they’ll measure your head to figure out where to place the magnetic coil. They may also take other measurements to personalize the settings on the machine. Once the coil is placed on your head, you’ll sit in a comfortable chair with ear plugs.

When the machine is turned on, you’ll hear clicking sounds and feel tapping on your forehead. You’ll remain awake during the entire treatment, which will last for anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. When it’s over, you may drive yourself and return to your normal activities.

Depending on your unique situation and goals, you may receive between 20 to 30 treatments over a four to six week period. You’ll likely notice a positive difference in your condition after just a few weeks of treatment.

TMS FAQ

TMS is a non-invasive, safe, and FDA-approved treatment for depression. It uses a pulsed magnetic field to stimulate the brain. The pulses are very short and weak, and they cannot cause any damage to the brain. It's also very safe for pregnant women and people with metal in their bodies.
The benefits of TMS therapy typically last for about four to six weeks. However, some people may experience benefits for longer or shorter periods of time. If you stop experiencing the desired results after a few weeks of treatment, your doctor may suggest increasing the number of sessions you receive or trying a different TMS protocol.
The most common side effect of TMS is headaches. Other possible side effects include scalp discomfort, lightheadedness, and dizziness. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own after a few days. Rarely, people may experience more serious side effects such as seizures, mania, and auditory or visual hallucinations. If you experience any of these side effects, please contact your doctor immediately.
Most major insurance companies cover TMS therapy. However, coverage may vary depending on your individual plan. It's important to check with your insurance provider to see if TMS is covered under your plan.
